Black Lives Matter

June 2020 - Ongoing

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd died at the hands of Derek Chauvin and three other Minneapolis police officers, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao. Due to the viral spread of the video documenting George Floyd's murder, the world rose in outrage sparking an uprising in the Black Lives Matter movement.

During this time, the deaths of more Black lives were brought to light, including: Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake, Ahmaud Arbery, Elijah McClain, and countless more...

I admit: I'm usually not up-to-date on current events and am privileged to live in a sheltered bubble of a community; however, the voices of the African American community and its allies rang clear and strong in their demands for justice. Under the unaddressed urgency to learn and do more for the Black Lives Matter movement, I spent time to learn more and have difficult, but necessary, conversations with my friends and family about our responsibility and position in this movement. Many of my peers get their information from social media, so I used my platform to share the information I learned and call my network to action.

The slide deck below is a compilation of information and resources regarding the Black Lives Matter movement, the problem before us, and what we can do moving forward. My research is largely taken from news sources, so I also created a list of less biased news sources in the spreadsheet below.
